O human! Understand this that Nature never gives that what you desire and want but surely gives that what you need and is necessary for your growth.
Listen carefully to the episode of the butterfly and absorb its profound wisdom.
A man saw a butterfly’s cocoon, which was almost mature. In a while he observed a small opening in it, the time for the butterfly to appear from the chrysalis had arrived. To experience this unique phenomenon of Nature and to observe the butterfly take its first flight, he sat there in amazement.
For hours the butterfly tried emerging from that small opening and kept withdrawing inside. The man could take its prolonged arduous strife no more, compassion sprouted in his being and he slit the cocoon. The butterfly hopped out easily but its body was swollen, full of fluid and its wings were small, dry and shrivelled up. The man kept watching, would it fly, would it fly now? But nothing like that happened; the butterfly kept rolling and stumbling all its life. Then the man realised Nature’s Law and the science behind it that his eagerness in showing his benevolence by being a doer had resulted in the butterfly’s life becoming an unfortunate curse. The natural effort of trying to come out of the little opening was essential for the butterfly because of it the internal fluids in its body were to be squeezed from its body and transferred to the wings providing them with necessary moisture and volume which would assist in the wings to open and be capable of lifting the weight of its body.
The result of interfering in the working of Nature in the name of compassion can be cruel and painful. This is the truth of all efforts that are against Nature. It is through these efforts human beings are tested of the strength to endeavour, struggling through these (purusharth se jujh kar), get the capacity to overcome and grow. To not give this natural tendency an opportunity to blossom and bear fruit is encouraging indolence (karmheenta).
O human you ask God for strength, God gives you difficulties to make you capable and courageous. You ask for wisdom and good senses to prevail (sadbuddhi), he gives you problems to unravel. You ask for (samruddhi) prosperity he has given you a mind and an aptitude to work. You ask God for love, he has given you all his people to spread warmth. You ask God for a boon, he has given you a chance to make them true.
In the stories form the Puranas when God appears he encourages the person to ask for a boon. O Foolish human! Doesn’t God know what you desire? THAT all wise one is asking you to know what your mind is capable of asking. In your wants is hidden you worthiness (supatrata). Herein is the secret of your destiny. So do not become a beggar, become a warrior of deeds, no effort is beyond your capacities. This is the truth of your existence.
